The late Henri Nouwen was one of the 20th century's great spiritual writers and this volume contains two of his most inspirational pastoral works. "The Life of the Beloved" asks how one can live a spiritual life in a completely secular culture. This spiritual classic began as a simple request from one friend to another. Fred Bratman, a secular journalist and writer, asked friend and renowned author Henri Nouwen to write a book explaining the spiritual life in terms that he and his friends could understand, avoiding theology and technical language. "Our Greatest Gift" is a meditation on dying and caring for the dying and discusses death and how to die well. This comes directly out of Nouwen's personal experience of being with the dying and asks: how can my death become fruitful in the lives of others? First published 1992 and 1994.
