Lifecare: Postnatal Moods - Emotional Changes Following Birth

Author(s): Gillian White (Associate Professor, Massey University (NZ))

Health

This much-needed book examines beliefs and myths around becoming a parent, and discusses postnatal stress, distress and depression. It offers local information but also draws on current research overseas. After a baby is born, there is a time of significant adjustment for the entire family. It is a time when problems can arise and these are often not recognised. As failure to adjust to parenthood seriously affects the developing child and is also of concern to grandparents, family and friends, the book will be informative not just for new parents but also for those supporting families where there is a new baby. Dr White is Associate Professor (Health Sciences) at Massey Universityâs Wellington campus, and is internationally known as a researcher in postnatal mood adjustment. First published October 2005.
