Jonathan Walford has held curatorial positions with several institutions, including the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto, of which he was founding curator. He has contributed to a number of books, including The Encyclopaedia of Fashion, The Lucy Maude Montgomery Album, Traditional Japanese Footwear and All About Shoes.
