The Story of Te Kuiti contains 23 chapters covering some pre-European history, the Poro-o-tarao tunnel contract 1885-1890 bringing the first Europeans to the area. Many archival and newspaper sources are used to build a picture of how the town developed beyond this point. A series of highly interesting cameos are woven together to present a picture of how and why things were so different in Te Kuiti from other places. It is this uniqueness that has made Te Kuiti a town of such great character.
