John Coffey has covered Rugby League and other sports for The Press newspaper since leaving the West Coast as a 16-year-old in 1963. Toured Australia and Great Britain as NZPA correspondent with Kiwis teams and covered the 1995 World Cup, New Zealand cricket's golden era from 1983 to 1992, as well as Commonwealth Games, international yachting and boxing. Coffey wrote Modern Rugby League Greats (1991), and Canterbury XIII, a Rugby League history (1987).
