Patearoa Past & Present : Stories & Pictures from a Central Otago Gold Town

Author(s): Jim Sullivan

Rotorua Books

Patearoa is a one-time gold mining centre 17 kms from Ranfurly, heading towards the Styx. These days it is a farming, retirement and holiday township. Its history over the last 140 years is told here in pictures in stories. The story of the Patearoa School, which closed in 2005 after 135 years, is included. Many of the old Central Otago gold towns have seen photographs and stories disappear as the older generations pass on. "Patearoa Past and Present" aims to preserve something of the legacy of at least one of these towns.
