Coming Home

Author(s): Sue Gee

General Fiction

Will and Flo Sutherland have found themselves, and each other, in colonial India, but as the war and the age of empire draws to a close, so they must make their way back to England. There, they and their young family attempt to fashion a new life for themselves in rural Devon, but managing a farm proves harsher than Will has anticipated, while Flo struggles to marry the pressures of domestic life with her desire to write. The 50s and 60s, the decades in which their children will come of age, will challenge some of the Sutherlands' deepest certainties, but through all the misunderstandings and heartache, this less-than-perfect family remain committed to one another above all things. COMING HOME is a tender and richly rewarding novel of an emblematic family over three decades, which beautifully conjures a quintessentially British, and now completely vanished, way of life.
