Chris Booth: Sculpture in Europe, Australia and New Zealand

Author(s): Edward Lucie-Smith

Fine Art

Chris Booth is one of New Zealand's most exciting contemporary sculptors with a rapidly developing international reputation. Best known for his massive stone columns and arches, he has produced major works in New Zealand and Australia but also England, Germany, France, Denmark and Italy. Booth's sensitivity to the environmental appropriateness of his sculptures is matched by a commitment to involving indigenous people in the conception of the work, the sourcing of materials and the construction of the sculpture itself. Thirty of Booth's sculptures from around the world will be included. Each work will be represented by several colour images, including photographs of the finished work and sequences showing the sourcing of materials, the planning and construction of the sculpture, and in some cases the maturing or weathering of the work. The book will be introduced by three prominent art historians: Edward Lucie-Smith will discuss his works in Europe and the United Kingdom; Gregory O'Brien in New Zealand; and Ken Scarlett in Australia.
