A voracious reader in her youth, Richardson would write her own stories when there wasn't a novel handy. She wrote her first book while studying Cybernetics at university, and it was published a year later. Aside from her Barrington Stoke titles, Devil for Sale and Grave Dirt, she has also written the hugely successful The Devil's Footsteps (Random House) which was shortlisted for the Doncaster Children's Book Award. She now lives in Basildon, Essex.
