Edward Seago: The Vintage Years

Author(s): Ron Ranson

Fine Art

Ron Ranson's first book on Edward Seago, published in 1987, brought this painter's powerful landscapes to a wider public, and revealed both the extent of Seago's following around the world and the paucity of his work available to most of his admirers since his untimely death in 1974. This second volume of his paintings focuses specifically on the places where Seago produced some of his finest and most characteristic pictures - Paris and the River Seine, Venice, the spectacular harbour of Hong Kong and, possibly most familiar to his devotees, East Anglia, where he lived and painted for most of his life. The book includes graced by a selection of Seago's paintings from the private collections of The Queen Mother, The Duke of Edinburgh and The Prince of Wales, all of whom knew the artist well - indeed, Seago at one time tutored Prince Charles. Most of these paintings have never been on public view. Seago's fresh and understated work, whether portraying the vast skies of Norfolk, misty city scenes or colourful Chinese junks, in oils or watercolour, have a continuing appeal for art enthusiasts from many walks of life.
