Cuzzie and Bro : The Story of Twin Piglets
Author(s): Marion Day
Twin piglets are born in a litter of ten on a farm bordering Te Urewera National Park. The tiny twins are trampled by their siblings in the fight for food, and Mrs Tama, the farmer's wife, takes the undersized and weak piglets into her care and hand-rears them.
Life on the farm with their barnyard friends and playful school children is idyllic for the twins. That is until tragedy strikes and everything changes.
In time, peace resumes until one fateful day, Cuzzie is lured into the mountains by the Patupaiarehe, fairies of the Maori people. Now he must learn new rules of survival in the wild, a life that at first terrifies him, then rewards him with more than he could ever hope for.
Suggested level: primary, intermediate.
