Description

This book is based around a group of New Zealand nursing sisters in World War I who trained as nurse anaesthetists and subsequently worked as anaesthetists in casualty clearing stations and stationary hospitals in France. This is a unique group of New Zealand nurses, as they are the only New Zealand nurses who have been specifically trained and have worked as nurse anaesthetists. Richard Rawstron studied medicine at the Otago Medical School and gave anaesthetics from 1942 until 1990. He worked in several countries including New Zealand, Australia, America and England. He is interested in the history of medicine including anaesthetics.
