Description

The Brook family arrived as settlers in 1861 and took up land at Awhitu. With other settler familites they built a church, school and wharf, forming a close knit community. Long lines of descendants have continued to have a strong attachment to Awhitu from those early days to the present. Their stories are set out. The Brook Homestead has been preserved as an item of cultural importance in the centre of the Awhitu Regional Park.
