France, August 1945. When two agents are arrested in Paris, it is SOE operative Rosie Ewing who is sent in to rescue them. Also in Paris is a woman by the name of Jacqueline with whom Rosie has had previous dealings and who is now the mistress of a highly-placed SD officer. Rosie's brief is to find Jacqueline, and through her and her lover discover where the two agents are being held, then get them out before they either talk of die under torture.

But get them out how?

The only way has to be with French Resistance help. In the chaos prevailing at this time, both Gaullist and communist resistance groups are stirring - and at each other's throats. There are also several pro-Nazi groups - including once quite exceptionally vicious lot. Rosie is going solo and virtually blind into the middle of all that . . .
