Author description

Adrian Mitchell was a prolific and celebrated writer for both children and adults. A fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, he was a passionate and popular performance poet, publishing over twenty volumes of poetry. He was also an acclaimed playwright, working with world-class companies such as the National Theatre and the RSC. His plays for children include The Pied Piper, The Snow Queen and Mowgli's Jungle. Praised by the Guardian as 'a gifted and deeply humane writer', towards the end of his career he increasingly championed children's literacy and creativity.

Emma Chichester Clark is an award-winning illustrator, loved the world over. Emma trained at Chelsea School of Art and The Royal College. She has illustrated numerous bestselling books, including modern classics, Orchard Greek Myths and Orchard Aesop's Fables by Michael Morpurgo. She has been shortlisted for the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal and is the winner of the Mother Goose Award for children's illustration. She has also featured in the Illustrators Hall of Fame in The Mail on Sunday with other illustrators including Quentin Blake, Michael Foreman, Shirley Hughes, Anthony Browne and Raymond Briggs.
