Author description

Claire was born in Bath in Wiltshire and moved to Kent when she was five. She spent her childhood drawing family and friends, and painting sheep and pigs in muddy fields. After getting a Degree in Fine Art in Canterbury Claire moved to London in 1995. She stumbled through various jobs until settling as a portrait painter and children's book author/illustrator in 2003. She went on to win the US Paterson Prize in 2009 and 2013 and the Shneider Family Book Award in the same year for her book 'Back to Front and Upside Down'. She teaches her own course on writing and illustrating picture books and lives in Crouch End, North London with her partner and their two little girls.
