Description

This is the next title in an established and well-known series. The focus will be on first-hand accounts of pilot's and crew of the aircraft carriers that served in the Second World War, but will differ slightly to the previous titles in that we will be bringing it up to date, covering later wars such as Korea, the Falklands, and Gulf conflicts, with an end section devoted to the commissioning of the latest British and US carriers. Part 1 will look at the development of the ships and planes - how the carrier developed out of the reconnaissance balloon that ascended from a ship - with some early accounts of the period. Part 2 will focus on the years of the Second World War; Part 3 will cover the conflicts of the second half of the twentieth century and Part 4 the latest carriers and their role in today's navies. Accounts will be taken from previously published material, diaries and official reports, and interviews with veterans themselves to build up a picture of life on board, offensive operations, the development of take-off and landing, to build up an incredible picture of this most efficient of warships.
